Remsen St. Mary’s wins games over MMCRU

REMSEN — Remsen St. Mary’s picked up a pair of War Eagle Conference wins over MMCRU on Monday.

The Class 1A No. 4 ranked RSM girls won by a 52-30 final score over the Royals. The Hawks jumped out to a 21-2 lead after a quarter and while getting outscored in the middle two frames, maintained a comfortable edge throughout the game.

Carmindee Ricke led the Hawks with 17 points. She added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Whitney Jensen finished with 15 points as the team’s other double digit scorer. She added a team-best four steals and two blocks while also having five assists and three rebounds.

Gracyn Schroeder tallied nine points on a trio of 3-pointers. Mya Bunkers scored six points, including a perfect 4-of-4 game at the charity stripe, while leading the team with six assists.

Halle Galles pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and scored three points while Marina Cronin had the other basket for the team in the game.

The Royals were led by a 19 point performance from Kora Alesch.

The win was the first for RSM in the series since winning both games in the 2016-17 season, ending a streak of eight straight wins for the Royals in the series.

RSM won their fourth game in a row to improve to 12-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference. MMCRU’s winning streak of six games entering the contest was snapped with the loss. They slipped to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

RSM boys victorious

The RSM boys, ranked No. 7 in Class 1A, picked up a 55-37 win over MMCRU. The Hawks finished with four players in double digits. Collin Homan led the team with 17 points on an efficient 7-of-8 shooting night from the floor.

Cael Ortmann and Jaxon Bunkers added 11 points apiece. Ortmann led the team with six steals. Bunkers finished with a team-high nine assists and six rebounds.

Ryan Willman made all four of his shot attempts from the field and both from the free-throw line to finish with 10 points. Cole Homan rounded out the team scoring with six points.

For the Royals, Mitchell Schnepf and Jonah Petersen led the way in scoring with seven points apiece. Derek Goth hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points while Kyler Bork scored five points while leading the team with four assists.

RSM improved to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference with their third win in a row. MMCRU dropped to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
