Wiig, Seuntjens claim WVC wrestling titles for K-P

Gavin Wiig Won WVC title at 113

IDA GROVE — The Kingsley-Pierson wrestling team claimed a pair of individual titles at the Western Valley Conference tournament on Saturday.

At 113, freshman Gavin Wiig claimed a title for the Panthers. He pinned West Monona’s Quinten Riley in 3:17 and then Woodbury Central’s Devin Metcalf in 49 seconds. Wiig took the first place match by a 10-2 major decision score over Jaxon Prichard of Westwood.

Carson Seuntjens Won WVC title at 132

Carson Seuntjens won his third consecutive WVC title. After winning the 126 crown last year and the 106 class in 2021, Seuntjens won the 132 title as a senior. He pinned his first two opponents in the first period. He finished off Jake Cougill of Ridge View in 51 seconds and beat Lawton-Bronson’s Taylor Hall in 1:35. In the title match he beat Woodbury Central’s Brand Beaver by a 6-3 score.

Peyton Koster was runner-up at 120. He pinned his first two opponents in the opening period, Lawton-Bronson’s Willie Molzen and Woodbury Central’s Axton Lindgren, before losing by fall in 5:36 to Westwood’s Owen Scott in the title match.

Levi Haggin took second at 126. He pinned Cameron Colbert of Woodbury Central and Landon Hanson of West Monona in the first two rounds. He lost a 14-1 major decision to TJ Nutt of MVAOCOU in the title match.

Tyler Orzechowski was runner-up at 138. He won a 15-2 major decision over Ridge View’s Austin Wood and edged Woodbury Central’s Gunnar Vohs by an 8-6 score. He lost a close 5-4 decision to West Monona’s Evan Meadows in the title match.

Calvin Harvey (145), Parker Hackett (160) and Peyton Hackett (195) finished in third place in their weight classes. Other placings for the Panthers were Evan Jagodzinske (4th-106), Josh Harvey (6th-152) and Jesse Harvey (6th-220).
