DENISON For the second year in a row, Dani Hurt has qualified for the state golf meet as an individual. She was able to finish with the runner-up score at the Class 3A state qualifying meet held at Majestic Hills Golf Course on Wednesday.

Hurt finished the 18 holes with a score of 81, one stroke behind the individual medalist, Nora Carlson of Humboldt.

Hurt shot a five-over-par 41 on the first nine which included a pair of birdies. She finished under on the par-4 second and par-5 seventh holes. She matched par on three other holes. On her second set of nine she shot a five-over-par 40. She birdied the final hole, a par-4 hole, and also was even on four others.

Le Mars brought only four golfers to the meet so those four scores all went towards the team score. Taylor Mackey was next on the team with a 106. She shot a 52 on the front nine and a 54 on the back nine with two even-par holes on each nine.

Zoe Wittkop added a 113 on splits of 54 and 59 while Jada Plueger shot a 128 with matching nine-hole totals of 64.

The Le Mars team score of 428 placed them sixth out of 12 teams. The team champions from Humboldt shot a 387. Sioux Center took second place with an even 400.

Hurt will compete in the 3A state tournament at River Valley Golf Course in Adel on May 26-27.
