Le Mars drops baseball doubleheader to No. 10 SB-L
SERGEANT BLUFF — The Le Mars Community baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Class 3A No. 10 ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton in Missouri River Activities Conference action to begin the season Tuesday.
The first game went to extra innings where the Warriors won by a 7-6 score. Le Mars scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning but the Warriors were able to plate two in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
Evan Jalas hit a two-run home run as one of the highlights of the game for the Bulldogs. Cal Eckstaine finished with three hits out of the leadoff spot while Teagen Kasel and Trent Marienau each had a pair of hits.
Aidan Sieperda led the Warriors by going 3-for-3 at the plate with a three-run home run. Sieperda also earned the win on the mound while pitching 1 2/3 innings and striking out four.
Ayden Hoag struck out eight in 4 1/3 innings while taking a no-decision. Kasel ended up taking the loss for the Bulldogs with four runs allowed in three innings.
Le Mars scored five runs in the first two innings of the second game, but were shut down after that as the Warriors pulled away late for a 10-5 win with seven runs across the fifth and sixth innings.
Kasel and Marienau had a pair of hits to lead the Bulldogs. Eckstaine, Marienau and Jalas each gave up runs while on the mound.
Tyler Lutgen led the Warriors with three hits and the same number of RBI. Lutgen got the start and gave up the five runs in two innings of work before Scott Kroll pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win.
