Akron-Westfield boys golf team, K-Pís Pratt advance to 1A state
DENISON ó The Akron-Westfield boys golf team along with Emerson Pratt from Kingsley-Pierson will represent Plymouth County at the Class 1A state golf meet next week. They punched their ticket with their scores at the district final meet held at Majestic Hills Golf Course on Monday.
The Westerners came away with the low score in the team standings with a 353. Fremont-Mills took the second place spot and advanced to state with a 355.
The Westerners were led by an 84 score from Carter Wilken. He shot a 43 on the front nine par-36 which included a birdie on the par-3 fourth and another on the par-5 seventh. His second nine score of 41 on the par-35 set of holes featured three evens while going one-over on the other six holes.
Landon Vossberg had the teamís next score with an 87. He shot a 44 on the front nine which included three even-par holes. He added three more evens on his second nine 43.
Raiden Ericson turned in an 89 card for the teamís third score. His first nine 43 included a birdie on the par-5 seventh and two even-par holes. His second nine score was a 46 with three even pars.
Completing the team score for the Westerners was Carson James with a 93. He had a 47 on the first nine which included one even-par hole. His second nine score of 46 featured a birdie on the par-5 14th and an even on the par-4 10th.
Not needed for the team score were a 96 from Tatum Wilken and a 99 from Jackson Marnach. Wilken finished with splits of 47 and 49 with five total even-par holes on the day. Marnach shot a 44 on his first nine and a 55 on his second nine as he ended with five total even-par holes on the day.
Kingsley-Piersonís Pratt earned one of the individual state qualifying spots as he tied for the lowest score of the day. He shot an 80 across the 18 holes which matched Mason Laven of Storm Lake St. Maryís and Cory Bantam of Woodbine. Those three will all advance to state as individuals.
Pratt shot a 42 on the first nine which included three even-par holes with the other six being all one-over par. His second nine score of 38 included six even-par holes with the other three being just one over.
Vincent Koelling had the next score for the Panthers with an 83. He shot a 44 on the front nine which included a birdie on the par-4 second and three other even holes. His second set of holes resulted in a 39 score. He shot eagle on the par-5 15th and par on three other holes.
Jake Utesch scored an 85 for the teamís third score. He shot a 42 on the front nine with four evens and added three more on his back nine 43.
Tyler Orzechowski finished with a 112 to complete the team score of 360 for the Panthers which was the fourth place team score. Orzechowski finished with a 55 going out and a 57 coming in.
The Panthers did not use a 113 from Beau Bubke or a 122 from Colton Kurtz.
Gehlen Catholic finished with a 363 team score which was sixth. The Jays were led by Dawson Barthole who finished with an 81, just a stroke back of earning an individual qualifying spot. He finished with a 40 on his front nine which included two birdies and two even-par holes. His 41 on the second nine saw him match par on four of the holes and finish just one over on four of the other five.
The teamís second score was an 88 from Gabe Wiltgen. He shot a 43 going out with a birdie on the par-5 seventh included in that nine along with three even-par holes. He birdied another hole on the second nine, the par-5 14th, while adding two other even-pars on his 45 on that set of holes.
Landen Reuter tallied a 91 for the teamís third score. He birdied the par-5 fifth and had four other evens on his first nine 47. He shot a 44 with three even-par holes on the second nine.
The teamís final counting score was a 103 from Carson Sitzmann on splits of 50 and 53 as he had three total even-par holes on the day. The teamís last score was a 112 on matching 56 nine-hole tallies from Cam DeRocher.
Gehlen is set to graduate Carson Sitzmann, Elias Sitzmann and Ryan Budden from this yearís team.
The Westerners and K-Pís Pratt will compete at Ames Golf & Country Club on Monday and Tuesday for the Class 1A state meet.
