LAWTON — Akron-Westfield will be represented at the state track and field meet by two individuals in three events following the results of the Class 1A state qualifying meet hosted by Lawton-Bronson on Friday.

Ian Blowe has qualified in both throwing events and will enter state with a good chance to place.

Blowe won the shot put at the state qualifier with a distance of 51-08. That mark was nearly seven feet better than the next-best in the field. Blowe enters state with the third best overall distance in the event and is just behind the 53-foot mark from New London’s Carter Allen which is the best entrance mark in the field.

Blowe didn’t win the discus, but his second place throw was easily good enough to make the state field. George-Little Rock’s Justin Olson edged him out by less than a foot with a toss of 157-07, but Blowe’s 156-10 mark is the best mark among non-winners from across the state and the fourth best seed mark overall. The quality of competition in the district was high as five individuals moved on in that event.

Lauryn Saathoff will represent the A-W girls. Saathoff snagged an at-large spot in the 200 with a time of 27.27 seconds. South O’Brien’s Willa Sickelka was the district winner with a time of 26.70 which is the fifth best time among the state qualifiers. Saathoff enters near the middle of the pack as her time was the 11th fastest of the state qualifiers.

Saathoff came up just short of qualifying in the high jump. Her 4-08 height was two inches behind the last of the at-large qualifiers.
