LAWTON — Led by 10 boys events qualifying, the MMCRU track and field teams will bring a total of 12 events to the state meet after running at the Class 1A state qualifying meet hosted by Lawton-Bronson on Friday.

The MMCRU boys finished second in the team standings to Gehlen Catholic, but actually qualified in four more events than the Jays.

Seven individual events advance

The Royals will have seven individual events compete at state. The team will double up in the 3200. While only the event winner earns an automatic spot in 1A, the second place time was also good enough to move on in the event. Kaden Galles won the race in a time of 10:33.07 while Brayden Dirks ran a 10:48.48. Those times will be the 11th and 17th fastest entering state.

Galles also qualified in the 1600. He won the race in a time of 4:54.05, but that time is the slowest among the 24 state qualifiers.

It’s a similar situation for Colin Pick in the 110 meter hurdles. He won the state qualifying race with a time of 16.37 seconds, but his time is the second-slowest among all of the state qualifiers.

Owen Alesch edged out Remsen St. Mary’s Brody Schorg by .12 of a second in the 800. Alesch won with a time of 2:02.62 which is the third fastest among all of the qualifiers. Schorg also advances in the event.

The team’s other running event individual qualifier is Gunnar Johnson in the 100 meter dash. He placed third in the race with a time of 11.55, but was able to still qualify based on time.

MMCRU also advances one field event as Mitchell Schnepf qualified in the discus. He was fifth at the state qualifying meet, but his distance of 133-09 was able to secure the last at-large spot in the event.

MMCRU boys add three relays

The Royals will take three relay events to state with one of those earning an automatic bid. The Royals 4x800 team of Jace Colling, Brett Staab, Kyler Bork and Alesch finished in a time of 8:49.67 to win. They enter state with the 18th fastest time.

The 4x200 team of Xander Tentinger, Kaden Neddermeyer, Eban Hicks and Johnson finished third at the meet, but they were fast enough to grab the an at-large bid with a time of 1:35.06.

The distance medley team ended up just sneaking in with the final at-large berth with a time of 3:48.42. Tentinger, Johnson, Colling and Staab are members of the relay which finished third at the state qualifier.

Dreckman to represent MMCRU girls

Emily Dreckman will be the representative for the MMCRU girls at the state meet. She qualified in both jumping events. She edged out a win in the long jump by half an inch over Gehlen’s Sophie Ruden with a mark of 15-11.50, but both will be headed to state.

Dreckman finished second in the high jump at 5-foot, an inch behind district winner Addison Smith of Lawton-Bronson. Dreckman is one of eight qualifiers in the field who will enter with a height of 5-00.
