Kingsley-Pierson boys win sectional golf meet
KINGSLEY — The Kingsley-Pierson boys golf team hosted a Class 1A sectional golf meet at Brookside Golf Course on Wednesday. The Panthers were able to turn in the low score on their home course to advance to the district round.
The Panthers shot a 348 which was six strokes better than runner-up Woodbury Central. As the host school claimed one of the top two spots, third place Westwood also advances to the district meet. The Rebels turned in a team score of 359. Those three were the only schools in close contention as fourth place Logan-Magnolia was 30 strokes behind Westwood’s third place score.
The Panthers ended with three of their six golfers making the top five on the individual leaderboard. That included an overall first place round for Vince Koelling.
He shot a 40 on the first trip around the course and a 41 on the second trip for an 81, nine strokes above par. He matched par on five of the holes on his first nine and was just one-over on the remaining four. His second nine included a pair of birdies on the par-5 fifth and par-4 sixth. He added two other even-par holes.
Emerson Pratt was next on the team with an 87 which was the third lowest overall score of the day. He shot a 44 on his first nine and a 43 on the second. He had three even-par holes on the first nine and four on the second nine. He also had a birdie on the par-4 sixth on his second trip around the course.
Beau Bubke placed fifth overall with an 88. His first nine 42 included a birdie on the par-3 fourth and four even-par holes. He matched par on two of his holes on the second nine where he scored a 46.
Colton Kurtz provided the team’s last counting score of the day with a 92 on splits of 45 and 47. The highlight of the day came when he eagled the par-4 sixth hole. He was even on three other holes throughout the day.
Jake Utesch finished with a 94 on splits of 43 and 51 while Tyler Orzechowski finished with a 105 on splits of 56 and 49 as the team’s other two scores.
The Panthers will compete Monday in the district golf meet at Majestic Hills in Denison.
