RSM golfers face Unity, South O’Brien
ORANGE CITY — The Remsen St. Mary’s golf teams split with Unity Christian in a War Eagle Conference matchup at Landsmeer Golf Course on Tuesday.
The RSM boys came away with a 160-176 win. Carter Schorg led the way with a 36 for the Hawks. Collin Homan was next with a 39 as that matched with Unity’s Graden Van Essen for the next-lowest score of the day.
Unity’s Titan Hulstein came in next on the leaderboard with a 41 before the Hawks wrapped up their team score with the next two scores. Hunter Pick shot a 42 and Austin Schwickerath tallied a 43. Jaxon Bunkers was close behind with a 44 and Colbey Penning added a 50 for the team’s last score.
The RSM girls came up short in a 214-221 loss despite having the top individual of the day. Sidney Tritz shot a 47 to lead the field as she was four strokes better than second place.
Lauren Vande Griend led the Knights with a 51 followed by a 53 for Allyson Yesda. The Knights completed their team score with a pair of 55s from Adriana Van Maanen and Sadie Goebel as those scores matched the second score from the Hawks shot by Isabella Arens.
Zajara Galles finished with a 59 and Maci Gravenish turned in a 60 card to complete the RSM team score. Non-counting scores for the Hawks were a 63 from Peyton Frederes and a 75 from Olivia Pottebaum.
RSM beats South O’Brien
PRIMGHAR — The RSM golf teams earned a pair of road wins over South O’Brien at the Primghar Golf & Country Club on Thursday.
The RSM boys shot a 171 to finish well below the 190 score from the Wolverines. Schorg had the overall medalist round on the day as he led the Hawks with a 37.
Pick was the runner-up with a 42 for the day.
Bunkers gave the Hawks their third finisher within the top three as he shot a 44. South O’Brien’s top scores came in next was matching 45 tallies for Kaedon Louscher and Brecken Coady.
RSM completed their team score with a 48 from Penning which tied with South O’Brien’s Derek Paulsen.
RSM had non-counting scores of 49 from Homan and 51 from Schwickerath.
The RSM girls shot a 210 which was good enough for the win compared to the 226 from South O’Brien. The Hawks won by a large margin despite South O’Brien’s Sam Wilbur taking overall medalist honors by four strokes with a 43.
The score knocked Tritz down to the second place spot for the first time this season. She had been overall medalist in each of the team’s first eight conference matches of the season. Tritz ended the day with a 47.
RSM added a 50 from Arens and their third score, a 56 from Maci Gravenish, tied with the No. 2 score for the Wolverines from Whitney Einck.
Zajara Galles had the final counting score for the Hawks with a 57. RSM did not use a 63 from Peyton Frederes or a 64 from Olvia Pottebaum towards their team score.
After the two days of play, the RSM girls finished 6-3. The RSM boys improved to 8-1 as they still need to face Trinity Christian.
