Remsen St. Mary’s, Akron-Westfield compete at H-M-S Hawk Relays
HARTLEY — Remsen St. Mary’s and Akron-Westfield made the trip to their War Eagle Conference neighbor for a track meet on Friday for the Hawk Relays hosted by Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
Claire Schroeder of RSM had the top time of 14 individuals in the 100 meter dash. She ran the race in a time of 13.22 seconds as she was .64 in front of the second place time.
The boys 800 run saw another win for the Hawks. Brody Schorg had the best time of 14 individuals as he finished in 2:12.46. He was just over two seconds faster than the next best time.
Akron-Westfield picked up a win in the boys shot put. Ian Blowe had the top throw of the 15 competitors with a distance of 45-05, winning by almost three feet.
Mya Bunkers of RSM placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.53 seconds. Danika Demers of Storm Lake St. Mary’s won in 16.62 seconds.
The Lady Westerners got a runner-up jump from Hailey Wilken in the long jump. She hit the sand at 15-00.50 to finish three inches behind the winning leap from Cherokee’s Kate Maves.
In the high jump, Lauren Saathoff placed third for the Westerners with a height of 4-06.
Whitney Jensen had top four finishes for RSM in the 200 and 400 distances. She was third in the 200 with a time of 27.89 and finished one spot in front of Saathoff who concluded in 28.18. The winning time came from Cherokee’s Camille Zwiefel as she finished in 26.79.
Jensen was fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:05.88, just over five seconds behind the winning time from Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Madison Brouwer.
Cael Moffatt finished third in the discus for the Westerners with a distance of 121-11. Blowe was fourth with a toss of 117-06, exactly 16 feet behind the winning throw from Justin Olson of George-Little Rock.
The Lady Hawks were second in a pair of relays. They were just over half a second behind the winning team from the host school in the sprint medley with a time of 2:00.43. The team was also second in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:18.53 as they finished behind Cherokee.
