Gehlen blasts Braves
LE MARS — The Gehlen Catholic baseball team reached double digits in scoring in just two games last year as they ended 6-17. The Jays made a statement in their opening game of 2020, scoring a 20-2 win over Cherokee in four innings.
The team scored all 20 runs within the first two innings, plating four in the opening frame and adding 16 more in the second. The team reached on 13 walks, 10 hits and a pair of hit batters in the game. The biggest of the 10 hits was a home run for Derek Von Arb who ended 2-for-2 with a walk and 2 RBI. Keaton Logan and Jeff Augustine added doubles for the Jays. Those three all crossed home plate three times.
Von Arb gave up a run on the mound, but struck out five in his two innings of work. Zayne Weiland and Bergen Vacura combined for the other two innings.
Gehlen will open the conference season Wednesday at West Sioux.
