Matthew DeHaan, 26, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.
Matthew was born on May 3, 1993, the son of Doug and Renee (Gollhofer) DeHaan at Sioux City. He was raised in Le Mars and received his education from Gehlen Catholic School, graduating in 2012. He then worked in the deli at Wal-Mart for two years, and then began working for Wells Enterprises.
His strength, courage, positive attitude and faith during his illness were amazing beyond words. He was so proud to be a Godfather for the first time to Amelia Sejnoha.
He was a member of All Saints Parish - St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.
He enjoyed camping, campfires, videogaming, hanging out with his friends, watching movies and his Denver Broncos.
He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Doug and Renee of Le Mars; his paternal grandmother, Therese DeHaan of Hawarden; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Mary Gollhofer; paternal grandfather, Donald DeHaan; aunt, Tammy Kunze and his beloved dog, Rudy.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at All Saints Parish - St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating and Deacon Paul Gengler assisting. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with family present will be from 4-7 p.m., today (Monday), with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church in Le Mars. Visitation will resume Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
Casketbearers will be Kellen Hackett, Jesse Boyer, Jared Boyer, Patrick Gollhofer, Codey Walker, Megz Hegdahl, Austin Sejnoha and Wesley Smart.
Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
