ORANGE CITY — Jake Francksen-Small has earned postseason honors following the wrestling season at Northwestern College.

Francksen-Small, a Le Mars Community grad from Merrill, was named to the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) All-Conference wrestling team as an honorable mention selection.

Francksen-Small earns his second-career All-Conference honor. A year off of an appearance at the NAIA Championships, Francksen-Small finished with a record of 14-9 and won the fifth-place match at the GPAC Championships. He was the team leader in technical falls with four, while also posting three pins, 27 takedowns, and 141 match points.

“This is Jake’s second All-GPAC honor and it speaks to his ability to overcome many things this season,” Northwestern Coach Rik Dahl said. “Jake had a solid duals season going 6-1 in the GPAC duals in which he participated.”

Along with being recognized for his accomplishments on the mat, Francksen-Small was also honored for his work in the classroom as he was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

To be recognized as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete is nominated by the institution’s head coach or sports information director with the criteria of maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.5, appearing on the eligibility ticket of the sport, and attending the institution for at least one full year.

It was the second time Francksen-Small has received Scholar-Athlete recognition.
