RSM’s Jensen selected to 1A All-Tournament Team

DES MOINES — Remsen St. Mary’s junior Whitney Jensen was named to the Class 1A All-Tournament Team following Saturday’s championship game at Wells Fargo Arena.

Jensen averaged 11.5 points per game across the two games she played in the state tournament. She finished tied for fourth in steals for the 1A tournament with six. She tied for third in the tournament field for 1A with three blocked shots.

Kamryn Kurt of North Linn was the other semifinalist named to the team after averaging 13.5 points in the two games.

The other four members of the All-Tournament Team came from those playing in Saturday’s title tilt which Algona Bishop Garrigan won 68-57 over Newell-Fonda.

Kierra Jungers and Mary Walker were named to the team from the Newell-Fonda squad. Walker averaged 19.7 points per game for the tournament while Jungers finished with an average of 14.7 points per game.

From the state champion Garrigan squad, Molly Joyce was named to the All-Tournament Team after she finished with the most assists (22) in the 1A tournament. She averaged 11.3 points per game.

Audi Crooks of Bishop Garrigan was named the captain of the All-Tournament Team after a record-breaking tournament. She scored a total of 117 points throughout the tournament, breaking the tournament record of 95 points which was set in 1993 by Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Karen Schulte. She capped off her high school career with a 49 point performance, breaking the state single game record of 48 points, set by Elle Ruffridge of Pocahontas Area in 2017.

Crooks had her lowest scoring output of the tournament against Remsen St. Mary’s as the Hawks slowed her down to a 26 point total in the semifinal round. She scored 42 against Martensdale-St. Marys in the quarterfinal round.

The All-Tournament captain made 81 percent of her shots from the field in the tournament, averaged 13.3 rebounds per contest and finished with 11 blocked shots, the tops in all of those categories.

Crooks, an Iowa State recruit, finishes third in Iowa history for her career with 2,734 points and 1,339 rebounds.
