Season of Lent signals Fish Fries

Two organizations in Remsen held Fish Fries on Friday, February 24, which was the first Friday of the season of Lent.
The St. Mary’s Activity Club held their annual Fish Supper from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m., at St. Mary’s High School Cafeteria in Remsen. Besides all-you-can-eat baked and fried fish, the menu consisted of homemade salads and desserts, corn, and cheesy potatoes. Many patrons took part in the delicious meal, whether eating at the cafeteria, getting a carry-out or having it delivered. New this year to the fish supper, the Actvity Club was also selling buckets of their famous breading and buckets of fried fish to go.
On the Remsen St. Mary’s Schools Facebook page after the event, a post read, “A huge shout out to the crew who made the Fish Supper happen tonight at RSM!”

The Remsen VFW and American Legion held their first of seven Fish Fries from 5 to 7 p.m. Many volunteers helped to serve delicious all-you-can-eat pollock, cheesy potatoes, hashbrowns, homemade salads and desserts to hungry guests. Besides pollock, an adventurous person could also try cod, shrimp, walleye, or orange roughy. Six Fridays remain for this annual fundraiser.
