Le Mars wrestlers continue state tournament competition

DES MOINES — The Le Mars Community contingent of state wrestlers returned to action on Thursday.
Ayden Hoag was the only wrestler to continue his journey past Thursday’s competition. The No. 5 seeded wrestler in the 3A-220 bracket won his quarterfinal round match by a 6-1 score over Jaxson Hildebrand of Denison-Schleswig. With the win, Hoag secured his spot in the semifinal round.
At 3A-195, Camden Feuerhelm won his first consolation match Thursday evening by a 4-1 decision score over Carson Slorah of Indianola. Feuerhelm scored a takedown early in the first period. He then chose bottom in the second period and worked a reversal to take a 4-0 lead. Two stalling calls led to Slorah getting a penalty point in the third, but Feuerhelm held on for the win.
In the next round, Feuerhelm was pinned by Collin Velky of Cedar Rapids Prairie in 2:46. Feuerhelm finishes with a 36-12 record in his junior season.
Evan Jalas lost his 3A-182 consolation match by a 5-2 score to Abe Parker of Waukee Northwest. Parker earned a takedown in the first period which Jalas quickly broke free from. In the second period Parker escaped from his choice of bottom. Jalas did the same in the third period. Parker added a late takedown to make the final score 5-2.
Jalas finishes his junior season with a 34-14 record.
Alex Allen lost his 3A-160 consolation match by a 6-4 decision to Jorden Roberts of Bettendorf. Roberts struck first with a takedown and Allen broke free for the first period scoring. Roberts scored three points with an escape and takedown in the second. Allen answered with an escape and takedown in the third before Roberts got free once more to seal the win in the final seconds.
Allen finishes his junior season with a 36-13 record.
At 3A-145, Keegan Kayser lost a consolation match by a 12-3 major decision score to Luke Hageman of Marshalltown. Kayser finishes his junior season with a 31-17 record.
Brock Hessenius was the team’s other wrestler and had a consolation match at 3A-120. He lost by a 12-2 major decision score to Ryan Hoefer of Cedar Rapids Xavier. Hessenius ends his sophomore season with a 28-22 record.
