No. 10 Hinton girls beat Akron-Westfield for third time

HINTON — The Hinton girls basketball team took down Akron-Westfield for the third time this season in Tuesday’s Class 2A regional quarterfinal contest.

The No. 10 ranked Blackhawks won by a final score of 65-27. The team scored in double digits in every quarter while holding the Westerners to single digits in each frame.

The Blackhawks had four players score in double digits in the win. Bailey Boeve finished with 15 points as the top scorer. Avery Burgad ended with 13 points, one more than Ashlyn Kovarna. Aubree Lake finished with 10 points.

Makenzie Hughes was the leading scorer for the Westerners with 16 points. She also led the team with six rebounds and four steals.

Allie Swoyer was the only other player on the team with multiple field goal makes in the game as she knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points.

The Westerners finish the season with a 9-13 record. They will say goodbye to seniors Alyssa Nemesio and Lauryn Saathoff.

Hinton (19-3) will host MVAOCOU (15-7) in Friday’s regional semifinal round.
