No. 7 RSM boys win postseason opener

REMSEN — The Class 1A No. 7 ranked Remsen St. Mary’s boys basketball team began their postseason run with a 70-32 win over Siouxland Christian on Monday.

The Hawks had four players finish in double digits and another finish just shy of the mark. Collin Homan led the team with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Jaxon Bunkers added 15 points which included three made 3-pointers. He pulled down six rebounds and finished second on the team with four assists.

Alex Schroeder and Ryan Willman added 13 points apiece. Schroeder made three shots from the perimeter while Willman worked closer to the basket with a 6-of-8 showing from the field. Both ended with five rebounds.

Cael Ortmann scored nine points and led the team with five assists and three steals. He grabbed six rebounds.

The team’s other point came on a free throw from Kadden Groepper.

Remsen St. Mary’s has won all six matchups in the series including both playoff meetings.

Siouxland Christian finishes the season with a 5-12 record. They won a play-in game over River Valley to face Remsen St. Mary’s.

The Hawks (19-2) will host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (12-9) in their next postseason game on Thursday. RSM won the regular season meeting between the two schools by a 60-50 score.
