Panthers compete at Herb Irgens Invitational

IDA GROVE ó Kingsley-Pierson competed at the Herb Irgens Invitational held Friday and Saturday at OABCIG High School. In the team scoring, out of 25 teams, Kingsley-Pierson took 13th.

Kingsley-Piersonís best finish was a third place result for Tyler Orzechowski at 138. After a bye, he won his next round match by a 6-4 score over Justus Leuthold of West Lyon. The quarterfinal round a familiar foe awaited as Orzechowski faced Lawton-Bronsonís Lane Mitchell. The two had met three times earlier this season with all being decision wins, one for Mitchell and two for the K-P wrestler. The latest result nearly lasted the full time once again, but Orzechowski was able to complete the win by fall in 5:55.

In the semifinal round, Orzechowski dropped an 8-0 major decision to Myles McMahon of Don Bosco. The K-P wrestler bounced back with a pair of decision wins to complete the tournament. In the consolation semifinals, he won a 7-2 decision over Dominic Aljets of Pocahontas Area. The third place match saw Orzechowski win a 2-0 decision over Ayden McRoberts of Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

In the 113 division, Gavin Wiig placed fifth. He received byes through the first two rounds before picking up a win by fall in 4:39 over Solonís Evan Burg in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal round, Wiig lost a close 5-4 decision to Caleb Swedin of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. Swedin won a 6-4 decision over Wiig in dual action earlier this season, one of the few wrestlers to have beaten Wiig this season.

Wiig lost his next match in the consolation semifinals, a 14-1 major decision to Jesupís Ayden Bergman. Wiig finished the tournament on a high note with a win in his fifth place match as he pinned Sergeant Bluff-Lutonís Cam Keokenchahn in 4:58.

K-P got their other fifth place finish from Carson Seuntjens, who like Wiig won a WVC title the week prior. Seuntjens opened with a pair of wins by fall. The first was a 2:17 pin of Cherokeeís Carter Hautt and the second was a 54 second win by fall of Lawton-Bronsonís Taylor Hall, his third pin of the season of the Eagle.

Seuntjens lost his quarterfinal round contest by fall in 2:19 to Sioux Centerís Kade Bauer, his second loss of the season to Bauer in as many meetings.

Seuntjens advanced on the consolation side of the bracket with a pair of pins. The first came in 3:33 against Akron-Westfieldís Elijah Medina, his third win over the Westerner this season. In the next round, Seuntjens was able to pin William Lawson of Pocahontas Area in 2:12. The K-P wrestler then dropped his consolation semifinal contest by a 3-0 score to Jordan Schmidt of Solon. In the fifth place match, Seuntjens met Bauer again, this time beating him by an 8-6 score.

The Panthers got their other two placing finishes from Parker and Peyton Hackett. In the 160 division, Parker Hackett placed seventh. After opening with a bye, he picked up a 2:53 win by fall over Bryce Rosacker of GTRA, his second pin of the season of Rosacker. Hackett dropped his quarterfinal round match by fall in 1:38 against Jireh Gallegos of Carroll. Hackett came back with a consolation round win as he pinned Gannon Sonntag of Tonganoxie (Kan.) in 1:24. The next round saw Hackett lose by fall in 5:58 to Jesupís Wyatt VanderWerff. Hackett concluded the tournament on a high note with a win in the seventh place match, pinning Cherokeeís Logan Allendar in 5:22. The win avenged two prior losses to Allendar this season at tournaments hosted by Akron-Westfield and Cherokee.

Peyton Hackett placed eighth at 195. After a bye, Hackett dropped a close 11-10 decision to Masen Streck of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Hackett kept alive on the back side of the bracket for three wins. The first was a 1:37 win by fall over Cherokeeís Carter Astidias, his second pin of Astidias this season. Hackett followed with a 1:54 win by fall over Western Christianís Lucas Kooima, another wrestler he had pinned previously this season. In the fourth consolation round, Hackett outscored Jacques Zomermaand of Sioux Center by a 10-4 score.

In the fifth consolation round, Hackett had a rematch with Streck and again dropped the match by a one point score, this one a 4-3 decision. In the seventh place match, Hackett dropped an 11-4 decision to Don Boscoís Emerson Hahn.
