Hinton sweeps H-LP, boys beat Siouxland Christian

HINTON Hinton came away with a doubleheader sweep of Harris-Lake Park in War Eagle Conference action Friday.

The Hinton girls, ranked No. 15 in Class 2A, came away with a 65-35 win.

The Blackhawks had three players finish in double digits in scoring. Natalee Junck led the team with 16 points. She made three 3-pointers in the game.

Bailey Boeve added 13 points. She was a rebound shy of a double-double. Ashlyn Kovarna did finish with a double-double as she scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. She also led the team with six assists. She tied for the most steals as she grabbed four, the same amount as Ashlyn Reintzel and Kadence Peters.

Aubree Lake contributed eight points for the Blackhawks.

Payton Reimers led the Wolves with 18 points. Next on the team in scoring was Addison Hibma with six points. They each made a pair of 3-pointers.

Hinton improved to 10-3 with the win and 4-2 in conference games. Harris-Lake Park dropped their fifth game in a row as they fell to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Boys win in 2OT

The Hinton boys basketball team ended a losing streak of four games with a double overtime win over Harris-Lake Park on Friday. The Blackhawks led 39-30 after three quarters, but the Wolves pulled to a tie at the end of regulation at 48-48. After both teams scored five points in the first overtime, Hinton pulled away in the second overtime period as they outscored the Wolves 19-2 for a 72-55 win.

Carson Peirce led the Blackhawks with 23 points. He was 10-of-13 at the charity stripe.

Logan Kempema made five 3-pointers en route to his 17 point performance. Kyle Leary was the third player in double figures with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Caden Winters led the team with 10 rebounds and four assists. He added six points. Colt Frank scored six points and Beau DeRocher rounded out the scoring with five points.

Tyce Gunderson was the leading scorer for the Wolves with 23 points. Lucas Ahrenstorff added 10 points as their other double digit scorers.

Hinton has won the last five meetings in the series.

Hinton improved to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in conference games. Harris-Lake Park fell to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Blackhawks beat Siouxland Christian

SIOUX CITY The Blackhawks followed up with a 58-41 win over Siouxland Christian on Saturday. Trailing 21-9 after a quarter, Hinton fought back to a tie by the end of the third quarter and outscored the Eagles 21-4 in the final frame to secure the win.

Peirce led the Blackhawks with 23 points, five assists and five steals. He also had seven rebounds which was second on the team.

Kempema ended with 12 points as he joined Peirce by knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Winters added seven points and led the team with 11 rebounds and a blocked shot.

DeRocher, Frank and Leary chipped in four points apiece.

It was the fifth win in a row in the series for Hinton. The Blackhawks improved to 7-5 overall. Siouxland Christian fell to 3-9.
