Prison inmate Thomas Knapp dies
CORALVILLE — The Iowa Department of Corrections has announced that Thomas Jordan Knapp, has died.
Knapp was pronounced dead due to natural causes at 10:36 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, while in hospice at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center where he had been housed due to chronic illness.
Knapp was 84 years old at the time of his death.
Knapp had been serving a life sentence for the crime of murder in the first degree and other charges from Plymouth County. His sentence began on Oct. 14, 2022.
Knapp was charged with first degree murder in the death of his stepson, Kevin Juzek, on May 11, 2020, at the family’s residence on Echo Road, rural Merrill.
Knapp also faced charges of domestic assault and aggravated domestic abuse assault while displaying or use of a weapon, of which he was also convicted.
Knapp was found guilty of the charges after a jury trial in September 2022.
He had been held in the Plymouth County Jail from the time of his arrest in May 2020, until his sentencing on Oct. 7.
