LE MARS — Total Motors is adding to its inventory for the second time since 2021.

On Thursday, Scott Taylor, the owner of the Total Motors dealership in Le Mars, announced the company will be completing the purchase of Ron Drenkow Motors in Sheldon in February.

“We are excited to join the Sheldon community and to continue the great legacy that the Drenkow family has created over the last 58 years,” Taylor said. “We are excited to help serve their customers and the surrounding area for years to come.”

This is the third dealership for Taylor.

Total Motors started in Le Mars in 2009, and Scott Taylor was one of three partners. He later bought them out to become the sole owner of Total Motors.

The dealership was independent until 2016 when Total Motors bought out Motor Inn in Le Mars to become a Chevrolet and GMC dealership.

The purchase of Drenkow Motors will be the second in a two-year span for the Taylor since Vollmar Motors in Holstein was acquired in the fall of 2021.

The Taylors plan to make little to no changes to the dealership, which will continue to operate under the name Drenkow Motors and will remain at the same location on Highway 18 on the east side of Sheldon. The dealership’s employees and entire operation will remain the same.

“The Drenkow family would like to thank Sheldon and the surrounding communities for all of their support over the years,” said Steve and Sheila Drenkow in announcing the transition. “Steve has enjoyed serving all of the individuals that have walked through Ron Drenkow Motors’ doors. We are extremely excited that another family-owned dealership will be taking over the business and supporting the Sheldon community.”

On Thursday, Jan. 26, Drenkow Motors will celebrate its 58th anniversary of when Ron Drenkow opened the dealership and service shop. Steve Drenkow, Ron’s son, took over the Sheldon dealership in 1991.

Ron Drenkow Motors started as a Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge dealership in 1965 and its first location was at the corner of Washington Avenue and Highway 18 before moving a location along old Highway 60 across from Hills Park. Drenkow Motors later purchased the Ken Karr Ford dealership.

Shortly after the turn of the century, Drenkow Motors found a home by Highway 18 again, moving to 2604 Park St., which is the dealership’s current location along with its service shop.

While Drenkow Motors no longer carries Plymouth since the brand of vehicles was discontinued in 2001, it still carries Chrysler and Dodge and has expanded to carry the Jeep, Ram and Ford franchise brands.
