LE MARS — A Le Mars Community Middle School special education teacher has been honored as the school district’s Employee of the Month.

The award was presented Jill Rutledge, seventh grade special education teacher, on Dec. 16.

LMCS math teacher Cole Berkenpas nominated Rutledge for the honor. In this nomination he wrote:

“Ms. Jill Rutledge is the best coworker a person could ask for. She is constantly looking for ways to help out in the class as a co-teacher. I always find her going the extra mile to help out where ever she can.

“She has been a blessing to have in my room, as she helps out with the administrative tasks that, unfortunately, tend to pile up. Furthermore, she is a blessing to the students.

“She is always looking for ways to make sure that every student has a chance to succeed, often finding that one little thing to make a concept click in a student’s brain. Additionally, she goes above and beyond making meaningful connections with students, always finding that one thing she can connect with to make the student feel like she truly cares.

“Finally, she has been someone that many teachers look to for guidance and wisdom as a mentor and a friend because she always leads with her heart which is something that I truly and admire about her. I would be lost without her because she does so much for everyone that she interacts with. She would be a fantastic employee of the month.”

Rutledge is completing her 8th year of service in the district.
