Le Mars girls win home wrestling tournament

LE MARS — The Le Mars Community girls wrestling team finished first of 13 at their own invitational on Saturday.
Earning a first place finish for the Bulldogs at 105 was Keira Hessenius. She got a bye and then pinned her other two opponents, finishing off Mackenzie Sandbulte of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in 37 seconds and Cassie McKeen of Spirit Lake Park in 2:56.
The other individual champion came at 170 as Desiree Breuer won all of her matches. After earning a bye, she pinned her next three foes beginning with a 47 second win by fall over Emma De Jong of BH/RV. She added a 3:33 pin of Tamson Budden from Sheldon/South O’Brien and a 3:11 pin of BH/RV’s Aria Rensink in the title match.
Hadassa Vasquez was runner-up in the 100 group. She advanced to the title match with a pair of byes before losing by fall in 2:30 to Aroura Preston of Spirit Lake Park.
Bailey Brady took second at 120. She won her first two matches by fall in similar times of 1:17 and 1:13, beating Dana Konz of Sheldon/South O’Brien and Jaimee Hazelett of Spirit Lake Park. In the first place match, Brady was pinned by Kendra Berglund of Sergeant Bluff-Luton in 5:37.
Kirsten Tyler took second at 125. She won her first three matches by fall. The first was a 1:16 pin over Sioux City North’s Analicia Salas and she followed with a 42 second pin of Sioux City West’s Mariah Barillas. In the semifinals she pinned West Lyon’s Juliette Taylor in 1:12. The only loss of the day came in the title match as Tyler dropped a 6-0 decision to Bellevue’s Adessa Leibfried.
Briar Hoppe took second at 130. She pinned Bellevue’s Kadence Michels in 52 seconds and West’s Nyamal Koang in 1:40. In the first place match, Hoppe was pinned in 1:19 by North’s Danyka Peterson.
Riley Ernst had the other silver for the team at 235. After a pair of byes, she met AHSTW’s Isabella Canada in the first place match and was pinned in 2:39.
The team added one bronze from Savanna Salen at 155. She had a quarterfinal round bye but then lost by fall in 41 seconds to Bellevue’s Kelsey Knief. Salen bounced back for a 1:37 win by fall over Kayla Sanchez of BH/RV in the third place match.
Other placing individuals for the team were Adriana Guerrero (4th-110), Kylie Hessenius (4th-115), Mac Ciaffa (4th-140), Sophie Bauman (5th-130), Kerene Panya (5th-145), Zoey Jeppesen (6th-190), Autumn Olsen (7th-135), Jacey Theisen (7th-170), Kirsten Ritz (8th-115) and Madalyn Johnson (8th-125).
