Gehlen sweeps Harris-Lake Park

LAKE PARK ó The Gehlen Catholic basketball teams picked up War Eagle Conference road wins over Harris-Lake Park on Saturday.

The Lady Jays earned a 52-49 win over the Wolves. Gehlen held the advantage shooting from the field, but the Wolves were able to keep it close through their free throw shooting. Gehlen shot 41 percent from the field compared to 29 percent for the Wolves. H-LP ended 15-of-25 from the charity stripe compared to 6-of-19 for the Jays.

Rysaiah Sitzmann was the leading scorer for Gehlen with 19 points. She added a team-high six steals and four assists and tied for second on the team with six rebounds.

Miyah Whitehead was a point away from a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Kate Bonderson hit both of her 3-point attempts as she ended with eight points.

Payton Reimers completed the bulk of the scoring for the Wolves as she scored 26 points. She had both of her teamís 3-pointers and added seven rebounds and three steals. Allison Wallace was their other double digit scorer with 10 points. She added a team-high nine rebounds and seven steals.

The win extends Gehlenís string of success in the series out to six games in a row. Gehlen improved to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference. H-LP fell to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Gehlen boys bounce back with win

After a 57-56 loss to Unity Christian in a game which did not count towards the conference standings on Thursday, the Gehlen boys basketball team bounced back with a 63-42 win on Saturday over Harris-Lake Park. Trailing 10-8 after a quarter, the Jays outscored their opponent in the next three quarters as they pulled away for a 21 point win.

Keaten Bonderson, who led the Jays with 24 points against the Knights, followed up with a 19 point performance against the Wolves. His shooting included all four of the teamís made 3-pointers. He added a team-high five assists and was one of four players with two steals each.

Keaton Logan finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for the Jays as he added four assists. Ryan Augustine scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds. He had two assists and the same number of steals.

Connor Kraft went 4-of-5 from the field as he added eight points.

Tyce Gunderson was the top scorer for the Wolves as he ended with 11 points which included three makes from 3-point range. Lucas Ahrenstorff made a pair of threes as he finished with eight points. Caleb Hemphill scored six points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Gehlen has won three straight in the series. The Jays improved to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference. H-LP fell to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in league games.
