K-P basketball beats Woodbury Central

KINGSLEY ó The Kingsley-Pierson basketball teams picked up wins over Western Valley Conference foe Woodbury Central on Friday.

The K-P girls jumped out to a 17-0 lead after a quarter and reached the 35-point margin to initiate the running clock by the end of the first half as they took a 40-4 lead into the locker room. The Panthers went on to win by a 66-18 final score.

Sydney Doeschot singlehandedly outscored the Wildcats with a performance which included 28 points and nine rebounds. She led the team in those categories. She also had six assists and four steals, second on the team in those categories.

Makenna Bowman and Avery Schroeder added 11 points apiece for the Panthers. Schroeder led the way with seven assists, six steals and a pair of blocked shots. Bowman added five boards, four assists and a pair of steals.

Aida Pratt knocked down a pair of 3-pointers as she ended with six points.

The Panthers have won the last four contests in the series between the rivals.

K-P improved to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference. Woodbury Central fell to 2-9 overall and 1-6 in WVC play.

Boys add to win streak

The K-P boys won their fourth straight as they picked up a 64-27 victory. Beau Goodwin was the leading scorer with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. He added six rebounds and four assists which tied for the team lead in those categories.

Evan Neumann added 12 points while Jake Utesch chipped in nine points. They combined for five of the teamís six made 3-pointers with Neumann getting two and Utesch adding three. Landon Howe had the teamís other made 3-pointer as he finished with eight points in the win.

Drew Kluender led the Wildcats with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

The two teams have evenly split their last eight meetings. K-P improved to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference. Woodbury Central lost their sixth game in a row to fall to 2-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
