Hinton goes 2-1 in duals hosted by Western Christian

HULL — The Hinton wrestling team went 2-1 in a set of duals on Thursday. The Class 1A No. 17 ranked team in the IWCOA rankings took down No. 11 ranked West Sioux by a 57-18 score.

At 106, Evan Stahl pinned Aiden DeBoom in 48 seconds for a Hinton win. At 120, Nicholas Lindley added another Hinton win as he doubled up Preston Providence by a 6-3 score. Around the win for Lindley, West Sioux got two of their wins in the dual, both by forfeit, as Hinton was open at 113 and 126.

Hinton got back in the win column at 132 as Mark Gant pinned Jayden Schuller in 29 seconds. Gage Morgan followed with a 6-1 decision win over Dustin Van Oort. At 145, Tommy Tanner went uncontested for a forfeit win.

West Sioux got their other win of the dual at 152 as Mikey Baker pinned Michael Loutsch in 53 seconds.

Hinton won the remaining weight classes in the dual. Jackson Kounkel picked up a win by fall in 1:14 over Drake Lynott at 160. Gabe Anderson followed with a 3-0 decision win over Javier Mora. At 182 and 195, Hinton won by fall as Jacob Bishop pinned Seth Persinger in 1:56 and Bode Binneboese pinned Kaleb Ver Hoeven in 19 seconds. Reese Stokes won by disqualification in his 220 match against Gibson Rens. Garrett Divis finished off with a forfeit win at the heavyweight class.

Win by similar score over Wolfpack

The team added a 57-10 win over Western Christian. The Blackhawks had four forfeit wins in the dual while neither team competed at 113 or 120.

Lindley won his 126 match by fall in 27 seconds over Kyler Van Surksum. At 138, Morgan pinned Kyson Van Surksum in 3:37.

At 145, Tanner outscored Keegan Van Surksum for an 8-6 decision win.

Kounkel pinned Jason Vande Vegte in 48 seconds at 160 and Bishop won in 3:19 by pinning Christopher VandeBrake at 182. Binneboese got the final win at 195 by pinning Lucas Kooima in 5:19.

Western Christian took the top two weights. Gavin DeHoogh won at 220 as he held Kolton Robinson scoreless for a 9-0 major decision win. Brooks McFarland pinned Divis in 2:39.

Fall to Woodbury Central

The Blackhawks dropped their dual to No. 9 ranked Woodbury Central by a 50-15 score.

Stokes got one of the wins for Hinton at 285 as he edged out a 7-6 win over Colton Warren. Stahl followed at 106 with a pin of Logan Pate in 54 seconds. The next Hinton win wouldn’t come again until 182 when Bishop pinned Preston Zellmer in 45 seconds.

While those were the only three wins for Hinton, they lost several close decision matches. At 120, Axton Lindgren edged out Lindley by a 5-4 score. At 132, Brand Beaver won by two in a 9-7 decision against Gant. The next two weight classes were also close as Gunnar Vohs edged Morgan by a 5-2 score and Ryder Koele beat Tanner by a 3-2 score. Additionally, at 195, Blase Sanford won a 4-0 decision over Binneboese.

Woodbury Central added two forfeit wins, two pins and a technical fall in the dual.

Hinton’s record stood at 11-2 in duals at the end of the night.
