Ranked RSM teams win on road at West Sioux

HAWARDEN ó The Remsen St. Maryís basketball teams picked up War Eagle Conference road wins over West Sioux on Thursday.

The Class 1A No. 4 ranked RSM girls picked up a 57-37 victory. The Hawks built up a double digit advantage by the end of the first quarter and added to it in each subsequent frame.

Whitney Jensen led the team with 17 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and a blocked shot. Her three assists tied for the team lead with Mya Bunkers and Halle Galles.

Carmindee Ricke and Bunkers joined Jensen in double figures as they each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. Ricke ended with 13 points while Bunkers scored 12 in the game.

Claire Schroeder added eight points, Galles finished with five and Lotta Hamburger rounded out the scoring with a bucket on her only shot attempt of the game.

The Hawks have won three in a row in the series. RSM improved to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference. West Sioux fell to 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in league play.

The Class 1A No. 5 ranked RSM boys bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 61-57 win over the Falcons.

The team was led by a double-double performance from Collin Homan as the sophomore scored 21 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. He went 6-of-12 from the field and 9-of-12 at the charity stripe.

Jaxon Bunkers added 20 points as he led the way with four assists, three steals and the teamís lone blocked shot. Cael Ortmann sank three triples en route to being the teamís third player in double digits with 13 points.

The Hawks have won the last six contests between the two teams. RSM improved to 7-1 with the win and are 4-0 in league games. West Sioux slipped to 8-2 with the loss with a 3-1 conference record.
