MMCRU takes two from Trinity

HULL The MMCRU basketball teams picked up a doubleheader sweep of Trinity Christian on Tuesday in games which did not count towards the War Eagle Conference standings.

The MMCRU girls picked up their fourth win in a row with a 39-33 win. The Royals overcame an 18-13 halftime deficit and outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Kora Alesch finished with 14 points as the leading scorer for the Royals. She was 8-of-11 at the charity stripe. She added seven rebounds which tied for the team lead with Isabelle Olson who was next on the team with nine points. Olson added five steals and four assists to lead the team in those categories.

Avery Schlenger knocked down a pair of 3-pointers as part of her eight points. Kennedy Tentinger scored six points while Jadyn Young had the other two.

Anna Postma led the Tigers with nine points. Keahna Heynen and Madelyn Vis scored six points apiece as they led the team with 11 and nine rebounds, respectively.

MMCRU sweeps the regular season series after winning 42-28 on Dec. 20. The Royals have won 11 in a row in the series. MMCRU improved to 5-2 overall. Trinity fell to 4-5 on the season.

The MMCRU boys picked up a 68-50 win as their second victory of the season. Both wins have come over the Tigers as they won by a similar 71-47 score on Dec 20. The Royals have stretched their series winning streak to five straight meetings.

Brayson Mulder put together a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Royals. Kyler Bork was the other double digit scorer with 10 points.

Lucas Braun added nine points while Jonah Petersen scored eight. Jace Colling led the team with nine assists, tied for the team lead with two steals and was second on the team with eight rebounds while chipping in four points.

MMCRU improved to 2-5 with the win while Trinity Christian fell to 1-8 with the loss.
