Hinton girls top Sheldon, boys fall to Orabs
HINTON ó The Hinton basketball teams hosted Sheldon for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday.
The Hinton girls scored all the points they needed in the first quarter, jumping out to a 22-10 advantage en route to a 54-21 win.
Bailey Boeve singlehandedly outscored the Orabs with a double-double performance of 27 points and 14 rebounds. She also led the team with five steals and had the teamís lone block.
Ashlyn Kovarna added a double-double of her own with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Aubree Lake was the only other player on the team with multiple field goal makes, finishing with four points.
Hinton has won each meeting the last three years. Hinton improved to 9-2 with the win. Sheldon fell to 3-9 with the loss.
Sheldon evened out the night with a 68-53 win in the second half of the doubleheader.
The Orabs shot 50 percent from the field compared to just over 30 percent for the Blackhawks as they reached their season scoring high. Ryan Vollink led the Orabs with 20 points as one of four players in double figures. Blake Radke (15), Dreu Kolbeck (15) and Anthony Provost (11) were the other double digit scorers for Sheldon.
Hinton had three players in double digits, led by Beau DeRocher and Kyle Leary with 13 apiece. Carson Peirce added 10.
Rounding out the scoring for Hinton were Karver DeGroot with seven points, Dylan Cobb with six and Caden Winters adding four. Winters was one of three players with six rebounds, joining DeRocher and DeGroot for most on the team. Cobb led the way with five assists.
Sheldon has won the last three meetings in the series as they improved to 3-8 on the season following losses in each of their first seven games.
Hinton dropped to 5-4 with the loss their third in a row coming out of the winter break.
