Le Mars girls wrestling beats Humboldt, Spencer in duals

HUMBOLDT The Le Mars Community girls wrestling team earned wins over Humboldt and Spencer in dual action on Monday. The team dropped their dual to Ridge View at the same event.

The Bulldogs beat Humboldt 42-39, avenging a 42-36 loss to them earlier this season. Le Mars had more success in the lower weights as they picked up five of the lightest six weight classes. Hadassa Vazquez won by forfeit at 100 pounds and Keira Hessenius claimed a win by fall over Macey Varangkounh in 57 seconds at 105.

Humboldt did get a win at 110 as Sophia Harris pinned Adriana Guerrero in 37 seconds. The Bulldogs answered with wins by fall in the next three weights of 115, 120 and 125. Kylie Hessenius beat Abby Dorn in 3:50, Bailey Brady pinned Allison Lynch in 1:43 and Kirsten Tyler topped Ashlyn Sutterfield in 2:17.

Humboldt followed with five consecutive wins, four pins and a forfeit. Baylie Beers beat Sophie Bauman, Claire Weydert topped Autumn Olsen, Mia Harris pinned Mac Ciaffa and Ella Olson won over Kerene Panya.

Le Mars got back in the win column at 170 as Desiree Breuer pinned Dylan Saathoff in 2:10.

Humboldt claimed 190 by a 6-3 decision score as Kennedy Robinson doubled up Jacey Theisen in points.

The top weight class of 235 went to the Bulldogs as Riley Ernst pinned Brooklyn Robinson in 1:16.

Against Spencer, the Bulldogs again had their most success in the lower weight classes, winning everything from 100 through 125. Vazquez again won by forfeit at 100. Keira Hessenius won by fall in 3:38 over Kiara Ruiz. Guerrero pinned Joshlyn Johnson in 3:42. Kylie Hessenius finished off Samantha Richardson in 1:39.

In the only match not decided by forfeit or fall, Brady won a 6-4 decision over Breanna Johnson. The Bulldogs capped off the run at 125 with a win by fall in 2:46 for Tyler over Kyiah Logan.

Spencer took the 130 and 135 matches by fall as Lily Sanchez pinned Briar Hoppe and Shaylee Sutherland beat Olsen.

At 145, Laila Nielsen pinned Panya. 140 and 170 went to the Bulldogs via forfeit while Spencer took 155 by forfeit.

Spencer added wins in the last two contested weights of 190 and 235 as Kaylee Nachtigal pinned Zoey Jeppesen and Olivia Huckfelt beat Ernst.

In an extra match at 115, Kirsten Ritz got a Bulldog win by fall over Katelyn Jones.

Le Mars lost their dual to Ridge View by a 51-27 score as they lost some of their advantage in the lighter weights.

Isabel Ekchan pinned Vasquez at 100 before a forfeit win for the Bulldogs at 105 tied the score.

Ridge View added a win at 110 as Kim Meyer pinned Guerrero and extended their lead with a win for Jolynn Tiefenthaler by fall over Kylie Hessenius at 115.

Brady got a Le Mars win at 120, pinning Jasmine Orduna, before Ridge View took the next two weights, one by forfeit and then an 8-2 decision for Destiny Brown over Tyler.

Le Mars won at 135 as Olsen edged out Nyamal Tut by a 5-4 score. Ridge View followed with wins in the next three classes. The first two were pins for Shania Graybill over Ciaffa and Isabella Deeds over Panya while 155 was claimed by forfeit.

Breuer got a win for the Bulldogs at 170 as she pinned Daynia Werner. After Maya Waldo won by fall for Ridge View over Jeppesen, Le Mars ended with a win in the top weight class as Ernst pinned Alexis Meyer.

Le Mars moved to 2-2 in dual action on the season.
