Vespers holiday program returns to Gehlen Catholic

Friday, December 9, 2022

LE MARS The Gehlen Catholic Vespers program will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The program will include prayer and song featuring the Concert Choir, Triple Trio, and Junior High Choir.

I love creating the journey and weaving the songs and prayers together to see what themes pop-up to figure out the overarching theme which this year is Under Bethlehem Skies, explained Director of 7-12 Choirs, Terra Falkena.

The whole community is welcome to attend the event and it is great for the whole family.

I look forward to Vespers every year because I get to see so many people from our community come celebrate the coming of Jesus and being able to display that through using our gifts of music. I myself also get to do what I love and sing about the child that gave me life, explained senior Christina Thoms.

One of the great Vespers traditions is the performance of O Holy Night.

I love it because we sing it every year and we get to sing with the alumni that many of us have been in choir with since we were freshman. When we sing it, I always put so much into it and its just a classic Christmas song, said Thoms.

Admission is free with a free will offering available.

Thoms encourages others to attend the free event by saying, It is an opportunity to come and quiet our souls and to prepare our hearts for Christmas.
