James ‘Jim’ Krier

James “Jim” Krier, 76, of Remsen, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City.

Jim was born on July 18, 1946, in Le Mars, the son of Ray and Vi (Konz) Krier. He was raised on a farm southeast of Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduating in 1964.

On Nov. 27, 1971, he married Karen Ruba. They made their home on a farm southeast of Remsen, where they raised their family along with crops and livestock and remained involved his entire life and ran a tractor repair shop on the farm.

Jim was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Sportsman Club of Remsen. He also served nine years on the St. Mary’s High School Board.

Jim’s love for all things farming and Case IH was great, but he enjoyed nothing more than having his grandchildren coming over and spending the night. He also really enjoyed playing pinochle.

Survivors include his wife Karen of 51 years; four children, Tom (Jennifer) Krier of Le Mars, Dan (Sara) Krier of Remsen, Julie (Kirk) Kneip of Le Mars, Steve Krier of Remsen; six grandchildren, Sidney, RJ, and Colt Krier, Kaleb, Ella, and Lydia Kneip; six brothers and sisters, Jerry (Sandy) Krier of Remsen, Nancy (Dick) Augustine of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Jan (Stan) Scheitler, Connie (Bob) Plathe, Bev (Tom) Bacan, Ron (Rose) Krier, all of Remsen; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Vi Krier; his in-laws, Irvin and Ethel Ruba; one nephew, Adam Krier; and one brother-in-law, Jim Wurth.

Mass of Christian Burial began at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating, the Rev. Timothy Pick concelebrating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen.

Visitation with family present was 3-5 p.m., Sunday, with a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Visitation resumed at 9:30 a.m., Monday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument.
