MMCRU falls to Lawton-Bronson in shootout
LAWTON ó MMCRU and Lawton-Bronson faced off in a Week 9 game Friday after neither team advanced to the Class A playoffs. The extra game turned into a shootout with the Eagles winning by a final score of 47-40.
MMCRU quarterback Jonah Petersen completed 19-of-37 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Jace Colling caught all three touchdown passes as he hauled in seven catches for 157 yards. Michael Peterson added seven catches for 99 yards.
The team added two rushing touchdowns. One was a quarterback keep from a yard out for Petersen. The other was a 7-yard scoring play for Brayson Mulder who was the teamís leading rusher with 23 carries for 120 yards.
Defensively, Michael Peterson had a 56-yard interception return for a touchdown. Kyler Bork added another interception for the defense. Noah Galles led the Royals with five tackles.
Lawton-Bronson quarterback Braden Heiss completed 15-of-31 passes for 439 yards and five touchdowns. Louden Grimsley caught two of the touchdowns, part of his five catches for 205 yards. Kurtus Palsma added touchdown grabs of 61 and 39 yards to end with exactly 100 receiving yards on his two catches. Caleb Garnand scored on a 40-yard reception as he finished with four catches for 65 yards. Jesse Oehlerking added three receptions for 67 yards.
The Eagles turned to Brayden Williams in the running game as he carried the ball 16 times of 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Lawton-Bronson finishes the season with a 4-5 record. MMCRU concludes the year with a 3-6 record. The Royals had just two seniors on this yearís roster.
