WC-KPís Putze earns spot at state cross country

SHENANDOAH ó Woodbury Central/Kingsley-Pierson runner Rachel Putze will advance to the state cross country meet following her finish at the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Shenandoah on Thursday.

The freshman finished in fifth place in the race as the top 15 individuals and top three teams in Class 2A advance to state. The Class 2A No. 13 ranked individual by the IATC finished in a time of 20:10.83.

The four times in front of her all finished below the 20-minute mark. Clare Kelly of Van Meter, the No. 3 ranked runner in the class, posted the winning time of 19:24.12 in the 85 runner field. No. 4 ranked Mayson Hartley of Clarinda (19:38.21), No. 10 ranked Mary Kelly of Van Meter (19:46.93) and No. 27 ranked Chloe Judisch of South Central Calhoun (19:57.92) had the other times in front of Putze.

The next WC-KP runner to finish was CJ Hannah as she took 34th in a time of 23:58.16. Bailey Beelner was 40th in 24:28.99 for the third time for the team. Joslyn Verschoor and Lea Hodgins completed the scoring five for the team with back-to-back finishes for the 49th and 50th place times. Verschoor concluded in 25:37.51 and Hodgins was next in a time of 25:39.00.

The teamís other two times were from Hanna Rodgers (58th, 26:51.40) and Alexis Mauer-Gregg (63rd, 27:35.50).

WC-KP ended sixth out of 13 complete teams at the event. No. 3 ranked Van Meter, No. 7 ranked Des Moines Christian and No. 16 ranked Clarinda earned the state qualifying spots in the top three.

Putze will run at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge on Friday, Oct. 28 in the Class 2A girls race scheduled for 2 p.m.

Boys

No one from WC-KP made the top 15 of the boys race. Marshall Benson was the teamís top finisher with a time of 19:09.25 for 32nd. About 20 seconds later, Devin Metcalf played 41st with a time of 19:29.98.

Carson Seuntjens had the teamís third time of 21:20.07 which was 70th. Two spots later, Cameron Colbert clocked a time of 21:25.35.

Evan Jagodzinske and Noah OíMara finished within a second of each other for the 79th and 80th place times. Jagodzinske was 55-hundredths of a second in front of OíMara with a time of 22:32.43.

Levi Haggin completed the seven runners for the team with an 84th place time of 22:46.72.

WC-KP finished 12th out of 14 complete teams in the final standings.

Des Moines Christian, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 2A, had the top three individual times as they took the team title. Aaron Fynaardt, the top-ranked individual in the class, won the race in a time of 15:48.61 to lead the 94 runner field. No. 17 ranked Chariton and No. 19 ranked Clarinda snagged the other two team spots at state.
