Le Mars cross country runs at Marsha Koebernick Invitational

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. ó The Le Mars Community cross country runners crossed the river to compete at the Marsha Koebernick Invitational on Thursday.

The races featured six runners for each team with the top four counting to the team scores.

Boys

Trace Obbink led the Le Mars boys with a fifth place finish. The No. 29 ranked runner in Class 3A by the IATC finished in a time of 17:46.14.

The next Le Mars runner was about a minute behind Obbinkís time. Juan Sanchez finished 20th with a time of 18:45.14. Three spots later, Michael Meis had the third time for the Bulldogs at 18:53.83. Caden Wurth finished 29th in the race with a time of 19:22.13.

Those top four times were used to tabulate the team score where Le Mars finished fourth out of the 10 teams in Class A.

Non-counting times for Le Mars came from Michael Murra (49th, 20:26.30) and Noah Laursen (53rd, 21:09.23).

Gabe Nash of Sioux City North, the No. 13 ranked individual in Class 4A, had the fastest time of the 58 runners in Class A at 16:07.08. North took home the team title as they had two other individuals within the top 10.

Team scores (Class A) Sioux City North 23, South Sioux City 44, Yankton 47, Le Mars 77, Sergeant Bluff-Luton 81, Spirit Lake 99, Omaha Central 125, Bishop Heelan 127, Sioux City West 144, Sioux City East 160.

Girls

The Le Mars girls were led by Rebecca Hulinsky as she placed 14th. She edged out that spot by two-tenths of a second over the girl behind her. Hulinsky finished in a time of 22:18.17. Five places later, MaKenzie DeRocher completed the race in a time of 22:42.88.

The teamís last two counting times took the 39th and 41st place spots. Kendal Hamerlinck concluded in 24:13.51 and Kylee Britt finished in 24:25.98.

Sienna Kass was two places behind Britt with a time of 24:52.14. The teamís final time was 26:00.97 from Marilyn Roller as she placed 51st.

Le Mars finished seventh out of the 10 teams in Class A. Bishop Heelan claimed the team title. Thea Chance of Yankton had the fastest time out of the 57 runners in Class A as she finished in 20:53.42.
