Remsen St. Mary’s finishes off Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in four
HARTLEY — The Remsen St. Mary’s volleyball team took down Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in four sets in a War Eagle Conference match Tuesday. After losing the first set 26-24, RSM won the next three sets with plenty of breathing room to claim the match. The team won 25-14 in the second, 25-9 in the third and 25-16 in the fourth.
The team had good balance among their setters and hitters. Mya Bunkers dished out 21 assists while Gracyn Schroeder wasn’t far behind with 19 assists in their dual-setter system.
Claire Schroeder led the attackers with 13 kills. She hit for a .455 efficiency in the match. Whitney Jensen and Bunkers added 11 kills apiece as the other two in double digits. Jensen finished with a .556 efficiency which was best on the team as she had just one attacking error. Bunkers hit .391 for the match.
Carmindee Ricke and Octavia Galles pitched in six kills apiece as the Hawks hit .364 as a team in the match.
H-M-S was held to a .017 efficiency in the contest with 29 attacking errors, just two less than their number of kills. Kylee Schiphoff led H-M-S with 10 kills. Elise Haack and Abby Douma ended with six kills apiece.
Defensively, RSM was able to get five blocks apiece from Bunkers and Jensen. Ricke ended with 10 digs to lead the back row.
RSM had just one ace serve in the match which came from Jensen.
Remsen St. Mary’s has won the conference meeting in each of the last six seasons. RSM improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn dropped to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference matches.
