Le Mars beats MMCRU at Cherokee volleyball tourney

CHEROKEE ó The Le Mars Community volleyball team earned one win at a tournament hosted by Cherokee on Saturday. The Bulldogs won a 2-0 match by scores of 21-18 and 21-12 over MMCRU.

Holly McNaughton led the team with seven kills in the win. Lexi Hurd added five kills as they each hit .333 for the match. Ireland Sitzmann added four kills with a .429 efficiency.

Payton Wright picked up 14 assists and was the teamís leader with four ace serves.

Sarah Brown led the back row with eight digs.

The team fell short of MOC-Floyd Valley in straight sets by scores of 21-11 and 21-17.

Sitzmann had four kills in the match, followed by three for McNaughton and two apiece for Lily Kirby and Lexi Hurd.

Wright had nine assists and the teamís only two aces. McNaughton led the team with five digs.

The Bulldogs dropped a 2-0 match to Boyden-Hull by scores of 21-14 and 21-18. Sitzmann led the way with three kills while Meredith Arnold had two as the only other player on the team with multiple kills.

Aubree Leusink and McNaughton each had an ace serve. Brown finished with a team-high seven digs.

Le Mars fell by identical 21-11 scores in their match against Ridge View. McNaughton was the only player with multiple kills as she finished with a pair. She added the teamís lone ace of the match.

Brown finished with 10 digs. Kirby led the team with three blocks while four others finished with two blocks apiece.

Le Mars had a 3-14 record following the tournament.

MMCRU gets win over South OíBrien

The Royals got their lone win of the tournament over South OíBrien by a 2-1 score. The Royals won the first set 21-15, dropped the second set 21-17 and won the third 15-3.

Isabelle Olson led the team with 14 kills. Avery Schlenger was next with four kills. Kennedy Tentinger, Emma Reuter and Hannah Neddermeyer finished with two kills apiece.

Breanna Staab led the back row with 15 digs and also had half of the teamís six ace serves in the match. Jadyn Young, who assisted on 14 plays, added two aces while Neddermeyer had the other.

The Royals fell to the host school by a 2-0 score. The Braves won by scores of 21-8 and 21-13. Schlenger led the team with four kills and a block in the match. Young had four assists and all three of the teamís aces.

MMCRU fell to Sioux City East in straight sets by scores of 21-7 and 21-10. Schlenger and Olson led the team with two kills apiece. Neddermeyer recorded an ace and Staab led the team with four digs.

The Royals fell to Le Mars 2-0 by set scores of 21-18 and 21-12. Young and Olson split the setting with five assists apiece. They also had all of the teamís aces with Young dropping in two and Olson getting the other. Schlenger had six kills to lead the team, one more than Olson.

MMCRUís record was 6-12 at the end of the tournament.
