LE MARS — The 3rd annual Jaywalk-a-thon based on prayer and the special intentions of our Le Mars community returns to the Gehlen Catholic practice track on Friday, Sept. 23 as the school’s second largest fundraiser.

Each student is encouraged to raise $75 and the school goal is $40,000 which will go towards art and teaching supplies, technology, educational field trips, and so much more.

“Our students have worked extremely hard to fundraise for their school and we are thankful for the support their parents and families, our community members, and local business sponsors have shown to help make the event a great success,” said Amy Jungers, Development Director at Gehlen Catholic.

Another goal the students have is to gather special prayer intentions from family, friends and neighbors so that during the walk, everyone can gather in prayer. Each student decorated their own prayer intention bags that will line the track during the walk.

Grade levels will walk for a half hour where they will gather in prayer, reflection and celebration with one another. Students were asked to invite their family members and friends to join alongside them at the event.

The walking schedule is:

9:30 a.m. - Preschool, Kindergarten and 12th Grade

10 a.m. - 4th Grade and 8th Grade

1:30 a.m. - 5th Grade and Seventh Grade

12:30 p.m. - 1st Grade and 11th Grade

1 p.m. - 3rd Grade and 9th Grade

1:30 p.m. - TK and 6th Grade

2 p.m. - 2nd Grade and 10th Grade

2:45 p.m. - Everyone on the track

Each half hour will start with an opening ceremony, prayer over special intentions, and then, on to walking with fun music to enjoy with friends and family.

“We love the opportunity to welcome our families and community members alongside us on such a special day! We are trying to pack the track with supporters to make it an unforgettable experience for all. We also plan to walk a lap at the home football game that evening to keep the excitement up all day long,” explained Jungers.
