LE MARS — The 4th annual Northwest Iowa National Invitational returns to Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars Sept. 18-20.
The event kicks off with the Junior Golf of Northwest Iowa’s College-Amateur on Sunday. Four player teams pair up with two college players in a scramble format over 18 holes.
On Monday, the championship tees off with 23 college teams from 10 states competing. The teams competing have assembled these impressive statistics including 14 National Team Championships. Seventeen of the teams finished in the Top 30 of last year’s NAIA rankings and national results. There are 18 returning All-Americans on rosters this year.
Among the teams in the field are men’s defending invitational champion Bellevue (Neb.) and women’s invitational defending champion Texas Wesleyan.
Local teams from Morningside and Briar Cliff will compete in the women’s field. The Mustangs and Chargers will be joined by Great Plains Athletic Conference foes Northwestern and Jamestown in the 14 team men’s invitational field.
The public is invited to watch all three days of the event. After the College-Amateur on Sunday, the public can watch the first 36 holes of action on Monday followed by the final 18 holes of the tournament on Tuesday with the awards ceremony to follow the final tabulation of scores from across the two days of competition.
