Le Mars cross country runners race at Storm Lake

STORM LAKE — Le Mars Community competed at a cross country meet hosted by Storm Lake on Tuesday.

Leading the Le Mars boys was Trace Obbink with a time of 17:30.17 which placed him seventh in the 72 runner field. Michael Meis joined him in the top 10 with a time of 17:41.72 for 10th place.

The top 15 runners all had times below 18 minutes. The top two times were both below 17 minutes as MOC-Floyd Valley teammates Isaiah Hulshof (16:47.91) and Trevor Mirande (16:54.76) took gold and silver to help propel their team to a title.

Juan Sanchez was the next Le Mars runner to finish as he was 30th in a time of 18:51.13. Caden Wurth placed 39th with a time of 19:14.53 for the Bulldogs. Michael Murra ended 20 seconds later with a time of 19:34.30 for 46th to complete the team scoring for Le Mars as they were fourth out of 10 complete teams. Noah Laursen (59th, 20:13.36) and Samuel McIntyre (72nd, 23:54.45) completed the varsity seven for Le Mars.

The Le Mars girls had one top 10 individual as Rebecca Hulinsky was ninth with a time of 21:35.93. MaKenzie DeRocher crossed the finish line 17th with a time of 22:17.22 as the next Bulldog to finish.

Sienna Kass ended 10 places after DeRocher with a time of 22:38.14. A little over a minute later, Kendal Hamerlinck was the next Le Mars runner to finish, doing so in a time of 23:44.69 for 38th. Marilyn Roller completed the top five for the team scoring for the Bulldogs with a time of 24:26.55 for 44th.

Le Mars ended fifth out of the 11 teams in attendance. The two times not included in the team scoring were from Kylee Britt (49th, 24:59.03) and Abigail Tilberg (62nd, 26:52.36).

Harlan’s Lindsey Sonderman had the fastest time of the 72 girls in the race with a time of 19:23.14, over a minute faster than the next-best time in the field. In a close three-way race for the team title, Spencer edged out MOC-Floyd Valley by one point and Harlan by two points.
