Local athletes run through The Meadows

MOVILLE ó Local cross country runners competed at The Meadows Country Club on Tuesday for the Woodbury Central Invitational.


The host Woodbury Central/Kingsley-Pierson girls had the top individual performer of the local schools in attendance. Rachel Putze placed third in the race with a time of 21:22.47. The freshman trailed two seniors in the race of 57 participants, Sioux City Northís Elizabeth Jordan, who won in a time of 20:03.36, and Lawton-Bronsonís Jolee Mesz, who took second in 20:36.49.

Hintonís Ava Lang was sixth in the race with a time of 22:32.65 as the sophomore trailed those top three along with a pair of Sioux City East runners who took the next two spots.

Hinton had three finish within a span of about five seconds for the 14th through 16th place times. Kaci Allen was the leader of that Blackhawk pack with a time of 23:44.01. Kyra Peters was next at 23:45.69 and Kadence Peters ended about three seconds later in a time of 23:48.92.

Hinton ended third in the team standings as their final counting runner was Haylee Jarvis, who finished 42nd in a time of 27:36.66. The Blackhawks took the bronze out of eight complete teams. East and North took the top two spots with identical scores with their first five runners. A separation of just one point between the teamís sixth runners gave East the edge for the team title.

Hintonís non-counting times came from Sarah Skuodas (50th, 29:58.00) and Morgan Vogt (52nd, 31:16.90).

WC-KP placed sixth in the team standings. After Putze, the teamís next runner was CJ Hannah as she finished 29th in 25:10.21. Bailey Beelner had the teamís third time of 25:59.11 which was good enough for 33rd. Lea Hodgins (43rd, 27:41.89) and Hanna Rodgers (45th, 29:22.05) completed the team scoring for WC-KP. Non-counting times for WC-KP were from Alexis Mauer-Gregg (48th, 29:39.85) and Hannah Koch (51st, 30:02.59).

MMCRU had three individual runners in the race. Audrey Etter led the team with a 37th place time of 26:24.56. Alyson Ball (49th, 29:45.34) and Natalie Plagman (53rd, 31:21.16) were the teamís other runners.

Team scores: Sioux City East 47, Sioux City North 47, Hinton 90, Sergeant Bluff-Luton 108, Lawton-Bronson 108, WC-KP 147, Sioux City West 173, Westwood 237. Incomplete teams- Siouxland Christian, MMCRU, Walthill.


MMCRUís Kaden Galles was the top local individual and placed second overall in a field which included all Class 3A or 4A runners in the rest of the top 10. Galles finished with a time of 17:24.92. He was about 12 seconds off the winning pace of Sioux City Northís Beshanena Gutema, who led the 62 runner field with a time of 17:12.66. The win for Gutema, as well as the rest of their counting five being in the top 10, helped the Stars to the team title.

Hintonís Zach Sypersma was 12th with a time of 18:49.75 and MMCRUís Owen Alesch was two places behind that with a time of 18:55.20. WC-KPís top time came from Marshall Benson as he placed 26th with the last sub-20 minute time of 19:59.96.

MMCRUís Lucas Braun was two places behind Benson with a time of 20:06.79. The final two runners for the fourth place Royals team were Wyatt Alesch (31st, 20:29.90) and Max Pepper (54th, 25:05.62).

WC-KP ended seventh out of eight complete teams in the final standings. Devin Metcalf and Carson Seuntjens took the 32nd and 34th place spots with times of 20:37.03 and 20:42.83, respectively. Cameron Colbert had the fourth counting score time for the team with a 43rd place finish of 22:13.48. The rest of the teamís runners ended in the 50th through 52nd place spots with times past the 24-minute mark. They were Levi Haggin (24:14.64), Evan Jagodzinske (24:17.31) and Kaedyn Willis (24:22.35).

Hinton did not have enough runners to tabulate a team score. Their other runners were Cooper Nelson (40th, 21:43.10), Ian Greigg (53rd, 24:42.69) and Carson Sudbeck (55th, 25:27.51).
