‘Game On’ for MMCRU homecoming week

MARCUS/REMSEN — Students, faculty, and staff at MMCRU Schools are ready to get their “Game On” for this year’s homecoming festivities.

This year, homecoming will be celebrated the week of Sept. 18-23, with the theme following board games.

The week’s activities will include dress up days for grades PK-12. On Monday, the high school will follow the theme of Country-opoly by dressing up as either country or country club. PK-8th grade will follow the theme of Candy Land: Sweet Dreams as they can wear their pajamas to school.

Tuesday, the theme is LEGO Creator: Construction Day for the entirety of the student body.

PK-8th grade will play Guess Who: Dress Your Best for their dress up day which will also be school picture day. The high school will follow the theme of Battleship: Battle of the Class Colors as seniors will wear black, juniors will sport white, sophomores will pull out their purple and the freshmen will don pink.

Thursday will be the Game of Life for all students, dressing as your past or future self, which could include dressing as what you want to be when you grow up.

Friday’s theme is Game On: Spirit Day where students will where their blue and white Royals attire.

Other activities throughout the week include high school there is hallway decorating on Sunday, PowderPuff Football game on Wednesday, PowderBuff Volleyball game on Thursday, and Class Olympics and float building on Friday.

At the middle school there is hallway decorating as well as several games and activities planned for the week.

Each elementary class does their own classroom activities as well as participates in the Dress Up Days, pep rally, and the parade.

The coronation of the 2022 homecoming queen and king will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, at the high school gymnasium in Marcus.

This year’s queen candidates are: Kora Alesch, daughter of Chantelle Waller and Keith Alesch; Jaelyn Kabisch, daughter of Sarah Kabisch and Michael Wipf; Hannah Neddermeyer, daughter of Jason and Jenny Neddermeyer; Isabelle Olson, daughter of Mike and Darcie Olson; and Avery Schlenger, daughter of Joe and Danielle Schlenger.

King candidates are: Owen Alesch, son of Gerry and Lisa Alesch; Andrew Barinsky, son of Jill and Brian Barinsky; Kamden Steffen, son of Jared and Kristin Steffen; Josh Wetter, son of Jake and Ginell Wetter; and Branden Whited, son of David and Becky Whited.

On Friday, the parade will start at 1:30 p.m. in Marcus with the pep rally to follow at the high school. To have an entry in the parade, contact Kayla Schroeder or Caitlin Dreckman by calling the high school at 712-376-4171.

The big sporting event of the week will be the football game Friday night in Marcus against South O’Brien. The week also includes a volleyball match against South O’Brien on Tuesday.

Following the football game on Friday, the celebration will conclude with the high school homecoming dance in the Marcus Commons.
