Hinton looks to ‘Take Out the Competition’ on homecoming

HINTON — Hinton will celebrate homecoming week Sept. 19-23 with the theme, “Taking Out the Competition” with a full schedule of events.

Homecoming week’s dress up days begin Monday, Sept. 19 with Camo Day as students will try to blend in to their surroundings.

Tuesday will be Country vs. Country Club in a battle of rural vs. urban. Later that night, coronation will take place in the high school gym at 7 p.m.

Queen candidates are: Aubree Lake, Natalee Junck and Emma Luschen.

King candidates are: Beau DeRocher, Glen Carlson and Dylan Hartman.

Wednesday will be Neon Day as students will break out their brightest colors.

Thursday will be Adam Sandler Day for 7th-12th graders. At the PK-6th grade levels, it will be Jersey Day.

Friday finishes the week as everyone will sport school colors of Black and Gold.

While Friday’s are typically an early out day for teacher professional development, to be able to conduct all of the special activities, it will be a regular dismissal time of 3:20 p.m.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday. It will begin at People’s Bank and will go along the Frontage Road past the Held Sports Complex and then to the Methodist Church and then up the hill to the school. Hinton will host Westwood in their homecoming football game on Friday night.

Other sporting events for the Blackhawks during the week include a cross country meet at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Monday and at Mapleton on Thursday. The volleyball team will host Trinity Christian on Thursday night.

The homecoming festivities will conclude on Saturday night with the homecoming dance for high school students at 8 p.m. in the elementary school gym.
