SIOUX CITY — The Le Mars Community boys golf team edged out Sioux City North by one stroke for the lowest score at a Missouri River Activities Conference triangular on Thursday. Le Mars won with a 280 which was a stroke better than the host school. Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson finished a distant third with a 342.

“We won our second triangular this year, which is great,” Le Mars Head Coach Nick Knapp said.

The Bulldogs were also able to claim the win despite a couple of their normal varsity regulars staying home.

“The best thing was that we got to bring two guys today that have not played varsity yet this year,” Knapp said. “Dylan (Susemihl) and Isaac (Tolzin) were willing to hang back today to give Camden Feuerhelm and Brock Hessenius a chance at playing a varsity tournament. Camden played some varsity last year, but has been just barely on the outside of the top six this year so I am glad he got a shot to show what he can do. Brock has been consistently getting better since the first practice two years ago, going from shooting in the mid 60s to now in the low 50s. We can all see as a squad that those two guys have put in the work and it is just too bad we can’t play eight or 10 guys at every meet. I thought that it was really cool of those two varsity guys to step aside for a day to let those guys play, and they filled in nicely.”

North’s Kal Chamberlain had the low score of 66 on the par-60 course. Le Mars had the next two scores on the leaderboard, a 68 for Cole Brownmiller, who took runner-up honors, and a 69 for Carter Baumgartner.

North’s Talan Willson shot a 70 for the fourth best score, one stroke in front of the third Bulldog score from Tate Murphy.

Jacob Plueger completed the team score for Le Mars with a 72, matching North’s Caleb Cross.

Feuerhelm finished with a 73 and Hessenius ended with a 93 to complete the Le Mars roster at the event.

Le Mars is now 4-1 against MRAC schools in league play. The team will finish off their conference regular season with a home triangular against Bishop Heelan and Sioux City West at Willow Creek Golf Course on Monday.
