A-W drops match to No. 6 Unity
ORANGE CITY — Akron-Westfield dropped a War Eagle Conference match to Class 3A No. 6 ranked Unity Christian on Thursday in straight sets. The Knights won by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-17.
Akron-Westfield’s Lauryn Saathoff and Unity Christian’s Gracie Schoonhoven each finished with 13 kills to lead their respective teams in the match. Haley Kuperus followed with 11 for the Knights and Tyra Schuiteman added eight of her own as Unity hit .356 as a team for the match.
After Saathoff, the Westerners had just six other kills, four from Makenzie Hughes and one apiece from Emma Rolfes and Allie Swoyer. The Westerners hit .136 for the match.
Addi Naslund and Swoyer each had two blocks to lead the defense. Hughes and Swoyer led the way with seven digs apiece. Alyssa Nemesio added six digs as did Josie Jacobs who also finished with 12 assists.
Lainey Schuknecht led the Westerners with four ace serves out of six total for the team in the match.
A-W trailed behind Unity’s 13 ace serves. Jadyn Hofmeyer led the Knights with five aces.
Unity improved to 2-0 in the conference and 4-4 overall. Akron-Westfield fell to 1-2 in the conference and 5-4 overall.
