Local runners compete at Sibley-Ocheyedan cross country meet

SIBLEY — Runners from Akron-Westfield, Hinton, MMCRU and Remsen St. Mary’s were among those who raced at the Sibley Golf Course on Tuesday.


MMCRU’s Kaden Galles led the local runners with a runner-up finish in the race. The 1A No. 13th ranked runner by the IATC finished the course in a time of 17:22.77, just over two seconds behind race winner Lane Henrichs of George-Little Rock/Central Lyon, who had the top time of 17:20.47 in the 86 runner field.

MMCRU had two others in the top 20. Owen Alesch was 12th with a time of 19:08.83. Lucas Braun took 20th with a time of 19:37.40. Those three made up the entirety of the MMCRU squad, so the Royals were two runners short of being able to tabulate a team score.

Hinton was also short of having a full team, but they also had some good individual placements. Caleb Bower was ninth with a time of 18:55.61. Teammate Zach Sypersma was two spots behind that with a time of 19:06.79.

Hinton’s other two runners were Cooper Nelson (63rd, 23:33.62) and Ian Greigg (73rd, 24:36.93).

Akron-Westfield was the only local school to put up enough runners for a full team. The Westerners took ninth out of the 11 full teams.

The team was led by a 16th place finish for Cael Morrow. The junior finished in a time of 19:27.95.

Dexter Briggs was 35th, just over a minute later, with a time of 20:33.34. About another minute passed before Noah Boie crossed the finish line for the Westerners with a time of 21:39.38.

Tanner Frerichs finished 71st with a time of 24:25.37. The final counting time came from Dawson Trobaugh who was 79th in 25:24.32. Jeremiah Bruget completed the team with a time of 27:19.23 for 83rd.

Hinton had the only full team of at least five girls from the local schools. Kaci Allen led the Blackhawks with a 15th place time of 23:10.24. Three others followed close behind to finish with in the top 20. Ava Lang and Kyra Peters ended back-to-back in the 17th and 18th place spots. Lang finished in 23:16.61 and Peters was next with a time of 23:20.16.

Kadence Peters took the final spot in the top 20 with a time of 23:33.50.

Ruby Harper completed the team score with a 67th place time of 29:54.65 as the Blackhawks were fifth out of nine full teams at the meet.

McKenna Loutsch of Remsen St. Mary’s placed 39th with a time of 25:15.03 as the only representative for the Hawks.

Akron-Westfield had two runners in the race. Josalyn Bruget was 60th in a time of 28:13.56. Jolie Sabaliauskas was 62nd with a time of 28:30.79.
