LAKE PARK — The Class 2A No. 11 ranked Hinton volleyball team swept Harris-Lake Park in convincing fashion in a War Eagle Conference match Tuesday. The Blackhawks won by set scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-4.

Serving was a key component of picking up the win according to Hinton co-Head Coach Kate Ortegren.

“We had an amazing serving night with 21 ace serves overall,” Ortegren said. “If it wasn’t an ace serve, most of our serves put H-LP out of system.”

Leading the way at the service line was Carly Hicklin who made all 20 of her serves while dropping five of those in for aces.

“Carly Hicklin had a great night,” Ortegren said. “She went on several serving runs. Her serves that weren’t ace serves were still very aggressive and got their offense out of system.”

Joining in on the strong serving night were Gabbie Friessen, Ashlyn Kovarna and Natalee Junck with four aces apiece. Aubree Lake had three aces and Bailey Boeve added another.

Boeve led the team with eight kills. She was followed by Hicklin with six, Junck with five and Avery Burgad with three. Kovarna assisted on 21 plays.

“Natalee Junck did a great job attacking,” Ortegren said. “Bailey Boeve and Avery Burgad had some amazing overpass attacks, and all of our hitters did a much better job with ball placement and eliminating errors. We only had four hitting errors on the night. Ashlyn Kovarna did a fantastic job of calling plays and spreading out our offense. We didn’t have a lot of long rallies, but the girls did an excellent job of executing when given the chance.”

Defensively, Burgad led the team in blocking with three solo blocks and four block assists. Hicklin led the team with three digs.

“We didn’t have many balls attacked back at us, so our defensive stats were quite low,” Ortegren said as the Wolves ended with just four kills in the match.

Harris-Lake Park dropped to 0-3 with the loss with two of those losses being in conference matches.

Hinton improved to 3-0 with the win as two of the three have come in conference play.
