Eight-year-old dies in UTV accident

HINTON - An 8-year-old boy has died as the result of a UTV accident, according to a news release issued by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the news release, at approximately 11:46 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call at the 28000 block of Hill Lane, west of Hinton. During the investigation it was learned an 8-year-old male was driving an unregistered 2012 Polaris Ranger UTV owned by the home owner. The driver lost control in a grassy area of their residence causing the UTV to rollover onto its top. The driver was partially ejected causing life threatening injuries.

The driver was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City by Hinton Ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

The name is not being released.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol and the Hinton Ambulance and Fire Department.

The accident remains under investigation.
