Flowers brighten up fair

Thursday, July 28, 2022

PLYMOUTH CO. Fairgoers to the 2022 Plymouth County Fair who enter the grounds through the South Gate will be welcomed by flowers planted in water tanks and a whiskey barrel on the south side of the restroom.

Approved by the Plymouth County Fair Board, this is an on-going project of the Floyd Valley Federated Garden Club.

The water tank planters highlight the country theme. Two of the tanks were donated by Joe Kessenich. The rock and soil was donated by Jerome Dreckman Excavating.

These photos planted by the Floyd Valley Federated Garden Club will greet guests of the Plymouth County Fair July 27-31.

For this project, the FVFGC was awarded a grant from the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa.

The sun-loving flowers in the tanks and barrel will attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Members of the Floyd Valley Federated Garden Club, established in 1994, hold an annual spring plant sale for a fundraiser. They roll up their sleeves for tree planting and beautification projects throughout Plymouth County.

The club also organizes and supervises the Open Class Horticultural Show each year at the Plymouth County Fair.

The club meets the second Tuesday of each month except August. New members are always welcome.
